Friends do not let friends ...

... fall prey to some fad diet that requires buying useless supplements.

The HCG diet, for example. It's actually not new. It has been around for many years and gained popularity when a con-artist by the name of Kevin Trudeau started peddling it. Incidently, he is targeted by the FTC for misrepresenting the contents of his book "The Weightloss Cure 'They' Don't Want You to Know About" in several infomercials.

Scumbags like Mr. Trudeau just make me furious. Friends who still believe that there is some sort of miracle pill for loosing weight just make me sad. In case of the HCG diet, it's not the injections or pills but the severe 500 calorie diet that does the trick. Anybody - and I mean ANYBODY - who eats only 500 calories a day will loose weight. Whether you take the HCG or not is totally irrelevant. You could take a placebo for all that matters. A FREE placebo.

On top of being only allowed 500 calories a day, the diet also restricts what you can eat AND - this is the kicker Mr. Trudeau does not tell you about - if you want to keep the weight off, you'll have to follow a lean diet for the rest of your life. Oh geez, big surprise! The Ultimate Fatburner Website has a pretty good and well-researched article on HCG and Kevin Trudau.

Basically, loosing weight requires a lifestyle change, something that weight loss programs like Weight Watchers have been promoting for centuries. So here is my advice ... if you are going to spend money on a diet, spend it on Weight Watchers or a similar weight loss program. You'll see results and you'll actually make a lifestyle change that you can maintain for the rest of your life.
